We traveled out to the HH Ranch in Baltimore County for our Annual Whitetail Extravaganza. The HH Ranch 2010 team comprised of Henry, Jess, Ben, Trey, Brian, Middleton, Patrick, Ritchie, Duane and myself. This was a great group of guys and they had high expectations because we had been seeing a nice amount of deer on the trail cameras the last two weeks. Although it was late in the firearm season the deer were still hanging around the ranch which kept everyone pumped up. What was really nice was we had a couple of young bucks, Patrick and Middleton that stole the spotlight. Our young bucks headed out to their stands and at approximately 230 pm and at about 240pm the first shot rang out from Middleton’s direction. Middleton broke the ice with deer number one.
I was filming Henry at the north tip of the property and and we watched a heard of deer, I’d say between 10-12 deer, working in Ben’s direction to the south of Henry and I. They slowly worked towards Ben but they stopped, turned around and made a circle around me and Henry and up toward Ritchie who was able to take a shot but found a hidden tree branch. Yea I think I’ve seen that before.
Patrick who had never taken a deer, was poised in a stand we’ve named Get-R-Done and just at “Last Call” at fading light, out pops “Stumpy” about 80 yards. He squeezed off his 12 gauge and down goes “Stumpy”, a pretty 6pointer we had been seeing around the ranch during the season, a deer we had been looking forward to taking if we got the chance. Well Patrick and Middleton scored and they were excited about their success. No other deer were taken this day but everyone got to see some deer with the exception of Duane who was in one of our most reliable stands, but that’s hunting. This was a great hunt and a huge congratulation goes out to Patrick and Middleton for a job well done. Patrick, that’s one heck of a first deer, good job!

Fabulous website and pics, Jay! I can experience the hunt while sitting in front of my warm cozy fire!
Love ya!
Thanks Sims, You’re the Best.
I had to secure Henry to the tree so he wouldn’t leave his post. He mentioned that cozy little fire you had burning and I was afraid I was going to loose him, and go a man down but thankfully I had strong enough rope and chains.
