Beachwood Park 2-27-11
The weather seems to be getting better but the perch jerk’n’ seems to be coming to a walk on the Western Shore.
30 plus anglers gave Beachwood park another shot at some perch but the bite has definitely fallen off from the all out mad run of last week, coming to a now, a slow walk. Some Anglers still found some perch and decent sizes, just not the limits we were seeing last week.
Catching some fish is certainly better than the alternative…”Nadda”
It appears the Eastern Shore Fishing has picked up but the Western Shore has taken a back seat until other runs occurs IE…ROCKFISH!!!!!! If you missed the run on the Western shore grab some grass shrimp and minnows and make the trek to the Eastern Shore for some better action. The perch are still here but you might have some trouble finding them.
Although the Eastern Shore Action has picked up, anglers are “wading” through a lot of small fish to get a couple keepers but a least the action is steady and is capable of keeping anglers interested and entertained.
Beachwood park seemed to be yielding about a one fish per angler every 1/2 an hour to 45mins or so. The good thing, or bad, depending on who you are…was the catfish bite picked up, but they are “mudcats”, and not the tasty, big fillet producing channel cats, but they’re still action. The majority of bites, both yellow perch and cats came on bottom rigs tipped with grass shrimp and minnows. I didn’t see anyone catch one on a bobber rig today.
The Hot hand of the day came from Rolland Dicus of Pasadena whom caught several catfish as well as a nice Yellow perch or two. Rolland is the one that found out the best bite was on a bottom rig with shrimp. Didn’t take long for most people to switch over to bottom rigs and start catching fish too.
All-in-all still a good day of fishing, but some people might have to stop by the store on their way home to get some fish for dinner tonight.
Till the Next time
