Superdave put his dream into play this September when he and a friend traveled to Colorado searching for elk on public land.  He decided he was, just going to do it!!!  He was going to travel to this wilderness state and purchase an Elk Tag over the counter and match whits with an elk, on the Elk’s terms.

Dave tackled the terrain, hiking up and down many mountains, crossing many valleys, and he really had to dig deep, for this hunt was not for the weak for sure.  The Elk were scarce; catching a glimpse of a cow every few miles would keep their hopes alive, and gave them the strength to forge on.  Sign was tough to come by but Dave was prepared to stay in the woods, should they locate any signs of a fresh herd with tents and supplies in tow.

Buggling Elk were nonexistent, not as he had imagined, but as he studied prior to heading out, he kept the pressure on the elk and himself.  As time wore on Dave had to collect himself to find the breath to “Cow Call” to his opponent, for the air was thin and all his calls went unanswered until his last…

Finally..His call was answered, the curtained raised, and the show was on.  A game of cat and mouse began… call, re-position, move , call, re-position…closer and closer Dave and the Elk closed the gap and Dave caught a Glimpse of his worthy opposition.  Antlers, the size of trees on the head of this 700lb Monarch.  Dave’s heart was beating through his chest, was this really happening?  Could Dave muster the strength to quietly draw back his bow on this now quickly approaching beast with out getting busted?

Dave’s dream went souring through the air and connected in a thundering explosion of 700 lbs of muscle retreating from the battle.  Was this sole arrow enough to take down this beast and was the shot true?

Take a look at Dave’s face in the picture and look into his eyes…A dream has become a reality, what an incredible accomplishment.  Well Done!   A true Wilderness adventure!

I’m great full to have my friend  (Allen) invite me on this journey and help me call this bull in and get an arrow in him… it was a 2 day truck ride followed but climbing mountain after mountain , little sleep, unanswered cow and bull calls, miles and miles of hiking. And finally on the 4th day we got an answer to the bugle and made it happen. …..if we weren’t beat already. It took 10 hours to get the first load packed and to the truck.  2 days to pack this elk out at 10,000+ feet in elevation …then soak our feet for the 2 day drive home. But we drove the whole way with a Smile. We DID IT….
