The title says it all. If you haven’t put your equipment away or wrapped you boat yet for this year, travelling as far south as possible on Maryland’s western shore is well worth the trip. There is plenty of parking and the 4 ramps are free at Pt. Lookout State Park. Eighteen miles north on Rt. 235 there is lodging and a variety of resturants. Hope to see you on the water.
Working Birds and Striped Bass Everywhere!
Thank you very much, Dave Fraizer, for your southern hospitality and for making these unforgettable fishing trips possible. On Friday Dave was waiting for me on his Boston Whaler Outrage at the dock as I pulled into the Pt. Lookout State Park parking lot. We loaded up all light tackle equipment and other essentials needed for the 2 day trip we had planned.
It was somewhat difficult locating nice stripers in the early afternoon, but that changed when we located some working birds on the east side.
My Buddies
The majority of stripers caught during the last hour and a half of daylight were keeper size. The weather was warm, with little wind, and smooth seas. This made topwater fishing possible and the fish were taking our poppers.
Once the sun set we were moving swiftly to Dave’s summer home on the Little Wicomico River. The fall sky showed us it’s beauty on the way home.
Sunset Over the Chesapeake Bay in VA
Rich DiGiovanna joined Dave and me on Saturday. The current was ebbing during the entire morning and we landed a countless number of striped bass, where again most were over keeper size, with 4 over 30″ caught.

Most Productive Lure:
Most Productive Technique: Crank-Crank, Jig-Jig – This technique jigs the lure off the bottom and up through the water columns in a jigging motion. It catches stripers on the bottom and the ones that are suspended.
From the up current side of the boat cast the lure out and let it hit the bottom. With the rod tip just above the water, jig the lure off the bottom and back down swiftly by moving the rod from 9 to 10 o’clock, then vice versa.
This technique is best accomplished by snapping the wrist rather than moving the rod with the arm. Jig the lure up off the bottom and back down to the bottom 3 times while keeping a tight line. Now take 2 cranks on the reel handle…stop…jig the lure 2 times when taking up all the slack. Do this again and again until the lure is back to the boat.
If you want your GPS/Sonar/Plotter unit set-up and/or to learn productive locations in this stretch of the Chesapeake Bay please call or text me at 443.690.3164. We will be using your boat on either of these trips.

Fly and Light Tackle Guiding on the Chesapeake Bay
443.690.3164———————————————————————————-

I just returned from fishing the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and Virginia on 11/24/15 and 11/25/15. I look forward to this time of the year since it is possible to catch quality, healthy, and hard fighting striped bass using light tackle equipment.

Thank you David Heath for taking me out early on Tuesday to do some fishing before my client, Steven Schuman, arrived at 11am. He was cruising on a Grady White, Freedom 275, from Annapolis to Buzz’s Marina. We left the dock at 7am and headed southeast. It wasn’t long before we saw birds working the water everywhere. We were looking for the gannets and large seagulls.

We were fishing in waters from 45 to 56 feet deep while the current was flooding. We fished a few locations before we hit the motherload.

Most Productive Lure: ZMan, 5 inch, Scented JerkshadZ on a 1 1/2 ounce jighead. Most Productive Technique: Jigging the Bottom-Open the bail and let the lure hit the bottom. Jerk the rod tip swiftly from 9 to 10 o’clock. Follow the lure back down with a tight line.
I had the pleasure of guiding Steven Schuman on both days. His business partners, Cal and Ben, joined us on Wednesday and everyone had a good time catching stripers on topwater and also on the bottom.
If you want to learn productive locations around Pt. Lookout from your boat, please call or text me at 443.690.3164.

Happy Thanksgiving,————————————————————————-
Each year quality striped bass visit the lower Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. An excellent location to fish for these hard fighting stripers is around Point Lookout at the south end of Maryland’s western shore. Another productive location is on the lower Potomac River on the west side of Point Lookout. There are 2 ramps located close by: Point Lookout and Buzz’s Marina. If you want to dock or keep your boat on the trailer talk to Mike or Christy at the Marina. The prices are reasonable and you will be close to some productive locations just outside of St. Jerome’s Creek.

You’ll be fishing in waters from 25 to 65 feet deep so leave the fly fishing equipment home and bring some medium heavy, fast tip, light tackle equipment. The lures, at times, can be somewhat heavier than those used during the rest of the year.

There are many structures that hold fish in this stretch of the Bay, and in the Potomac River. While you’re there keep an eye out for birds working the water. I will be guiding there tomorrow and Wednesday. Please keep an eye out for a fishing report later this week.

NOTE: I’m only guiding anglers on their boats out of Point Lookout. All light tackle equipment, lures, inflatable PDFs, and lunch will be provided. You will be learning new waters to fish, what lures are productive and where, proven techniques, and much more. There is an excellent ramp to launch at Pt. Lookout.

To those anglers who have called me to learn how to light tackle fish out of their boat, this is an excellent opportunity to do just that. I will be guiding there until the December 20, 2015, last day of the season. If you need a guide just call or text me at 443.690.3164.
