REPORT from ANNAPOLIS: Strict Liability – Our two All-Star panels testified to the Senate Committee in Support of SB88. One former Wildlife Advisory Committee (WAC) member/animal activist testified against. Thanks to the NRA and the Maryland Farm Bureau for their support. The Coalition believes the vote will be close. Tomorrow, our panels testify to the House committee on the companion bill, HB170.
ALSO, HB18 – Baltimore County, Sunday Hunting. Word in the hallway confirmed that the Baltimore Delegation vote (probably Friday) will be “razor close”. If you are a Baltimore County registered voter and support the TWO DAYS of Sunday hunting that this bill would allow, please contact the Delegation and encourage others to do so. See the Call to Action on the Coalition website’s home page. The Horse Council claims that 70% of their members hunt. Anyone know horse folks that hunt and support Sunday Hunting? Please let us know via email or PM.

    • Michael Kirby I’ve got another take on this. If 70%of the horse council hunts, are they trying to keep all Sunday hunting (probably mostly fox hunting {chasing}) to themselves by blocking these proposals?Kind of greedy?
    • Nathan Todd Beeman Has anyone ever generated a report to show the difference in revenue created by hunting and horse riding? I know the hunting license fees are a huge part of the budget for MD DNR WHS, and one would think the tax revenue from weapons, ammunition, apparel, lodging, gasoline, etc. would far surpass anything horse riding would bring to the economy. Obviously, such a report would take time and money, but I would think presenting the raw numbers alone to the legislature would make it a slam dunk. Not to mention, horse back riders have 12 months of the year they can pursue their passion, hunters have roughly 6. This should be a non-issue in my mind, but who am I to say anything?
