Captain Jon Duffie

Captain Jon Duffie is a Maryland native who grew up fishing out of Ocean City, MD. As soon as he could walk, he began fishing offshore with his father on their family owned boat. When he was a teenager he began working as a mate with some of the most accomplished captains in the business. Throughout his twenties he ran various boats as well as the family owned boat, the BILLFISHER, and has become one of most competitive billfisherman on the east coast. He has fished up and down the entire east coast of the United States, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and just about everywhere in between. He has navigated through the Panama Canal and has been crew on many yacht deliveries to foreign ports. The experience gained in these years of traveling have helped attribute to his tournament track record. He has won or placed in many tournaments over the years including being the top points boat and top captain in the White Marlin Open twice in his career. Tournament fishing is not his only passion, he also loves to share his vast knowledge of fishing and teach eager beginners.

Capt. Jon is surrounded by a close family tie around the Billfisher and is often joined by his father (Jonathon), mother (Judy) and brother (Jeremy). The family has taken part in the last 3 seasons of releasing over 130 billfish in a season with their best coming in at 231 releases in a single season…make that 266 in a season, his numbers seem to raise with each passing season!

With number such as this, many regard Capt. Jon as one of the top Captains in the world.

The Billfisher

The BILLFISHER was built by Spencer Yachts in Wanchese North Carolina. She was launched in June of 2008. The BILLFISHER is powered by a pair of C-32 Acert Caterpillars which produce 1800 horsepower a piece allowing the BILLFISHER to have a cruising speed of 35 knots. Her hull is constructed out of triple planked Joubert plywood which is encapsulated in fiberglass. Spencer Yachts modern construction methods create a hull which is not only extremely strong, but also lightweight. This is what allows the BILLFISHER to have the high cruising speed, without sacrificing efficiency. We have outfitted the BILLFISHER with the latest in today’s marine electronics including a Northstar 6100i with Sirius Satellite WX and SST capabilities, a Furuno Navnet3, FCV1200 fishfinder, Furuno RD30, ICOM 804 SSB, 2 ICOM 604 VHFs, and a FLIR night vision camera. The interior of the BILLFISHER is a comfortable setting with cozy leather couches, a 42″ LCD television with DIRECTV service, and a full galley with convection microwave and sub-zero refrigeration. The cockpit of the BILLFISHER has a mezzanine couch, refrigerated drink boxes, a Gagganau BBQ grill, and an Eskimo icemaker. A Release Marine fighting chair, 4 live well pumps, and an oversized fishbox ensure that the BILLFISHER is equipped for any type fishing.
